I really enjoyed the 2023 BasaJaun event so I thought I would go back for another go. Its a fantastic event and I really enjoy the couple of nights beforehand in Vitoria. This years event was going to be a lot cooler than before with some rain predicted as well. The route starts off nicely but soon becomes very technical with a tough hike a bike section which made me glad it wasn't raining yet. Moving on we hit a climb which gave me a weird sensation that my saddle had come loose and was gradually tilting backwards, the climb got so steep I had to walk so I thought I would have a look at the top. Having got to the top I stopped and to my horror the seatpost had snapped! After a few minutes of just standing there I put the post back in 50 cms lower and headed off to the next village on route. I eventually found a bar and tried to find a bike shop, which there aren't many of in the basque mountains. I rode 50km off route to a hotel to wait for the bike shop to open on Monday morning. I awoke Monday morning to rain and a bike shop with no seatpost so I started my journey back to Vitoria to the start. Looking back I could have kept looking in Vitoria for a seatpost but I was soaked and just couldn't face doing the same part of the course again. Next time.
