Spanish sportives are some of the best organized and best value events you can do. Every year we attend as many local events as possible which are all well worth a trip and offer some great challanges and even better goody bags!
Sierra Nevada Limite ??? July 2012
The return of El Limite and this year a real test with 3 options.
157km 5485mts A huge test including 2 cat 1 climbs and finishing on Pico Veleta.
145km 4410mts Slightly shorter and finishing a bit lower at the ski resort.
46km 2710mts It may be short but this is the old favourite and finishes on the Pico Veleta. If you can get under 3 hours you are going well. For these events we will be spending 2 nights in the City of Granada which is a real must see. Please get in touch if you would like more details
La Sufrida (The Suffering) 2nd June 2012
One of southern Spain's best sportives. 176km or 96km around the stunning Ronda area. With 4000 mts of climbing in the longer event this is a great test. We will be spending 2 nights away for this event. The race is timed with chips and has plenty of food stops, and a great goodie bag.
Puerto De La Ragua sportive 26th July 2011
It's 116 km over the Sierra Nevada with 2 passes over the cat 1 climb. A very well organized event with a great goody bag and a huge Paella afterwards. This sportive has a real race feel at the front with a mass start and a timing car. Or, if you would like it more leisurely all abilities are catered for.
Further 2011 dates to be confirmed around the Granada and Almeria regions.
Fiesta!!
Feeling like a party and think you can stay up as late as our Spanish friends? Then if you are lucky enough to be here during a fiesta this is a great time to sample real Spanish life.
Early May - San Isidro Fiesta
This fiesta takes place in the church square outside the house. A lovely local fiesta involving broad beans, cold meats and local wine made by our neighbour.
Late June - San Juan
This is the water fiesta when all the local pools open. Not having a pool in our square, we just have a band, beer and early morning paella! Or we can go to the local pool and have a midnight swim!
Mid August - Expo Cádiar
A fair in the main town of local produce, lots of stalls and goodies to sample.
Early October - Feria de Cádiar
The main annual fiesta, this takes place in town with fair rides, extra bars and stalls. with live music every night. The sort of fiesta you need a holiday after!
